Hi All, we are excited to bring our friend @Graywolf to the North Carolina Furniture School to teach us how to sharpen hand saws on February 5. It's coming up fast, and we would really like to see some folks join him from NCWW! You can register here:

Hand Saw Sharpening Class with Richard Moore

Here are some of the key topics he laid out for us:
  • Saw terminology, anatomy, and tooth geometry
  • How to set up a comfortable, efficient sharpening station
  • Choosing the right files and why proper handles matter
  • Selecting or building a reliable saw vise
  • Essential tools and sundry items for sharpening
  • How to assess a saw’s condition: plate, tension, toothline, handle, and more
  • The purpose and process of jointing
  • Correct rake and fleam angles for different tasks
  • Techniques for shaping teeth (“chasing the flats”)
  • How to sharpen, set, and stone the teeth
  • How to safely test and evaluate your results

If you have questions please don't hesitate to reach out to either Richard or myself, we look forward to seeing some of you guys at the class!

I’d like to thank Stuart for hosting this class, and although the attendance was not what originally was expected. We had a few willing students to listen and to try my approach to sharpening handsaws. There is much more to be shown and taught on handsaw sharpening that cannot be covered in a single day. I’m proud to say we have helped these gentleman on that journey. I enjoyed the little town of Farmville. Here are a few pics of the town.
