Alright, so I need some pen kits. It's amazing how quickly you can go through them. The discounted prices with increased quantity got me thinking I should set up a group buy here on NCWW'er and get us all a deal.

I've emailed Arizona Silhouette and Woodturningz to see about special pricing. I've only heard back from Arizona. I was told if we ordered 500 kits we could get extra discounts, I don't know what the extra would be yet. I'm still waiting for Woodturningz.

I'm willing to orchestrate this buy if there is enough interest. In the pole I'm asking for which company your prefer.

So what do y'all think? good idea?

I prefer Arizona Silhouette but i also like Craft Supply USA. Have you checked to see if the discount is applied no matter what type of kit is purchased? Do we have to buy so many of each kit to be able to get a discount on each kit? Does the discount apply to the higher end finishes also?

I would be interested in some kits but I am looking at getting the better finishes like TA Gold, Platinum, and maybe some SS.

Arizona sells the Berea kits, but I'm not sure whose kits woodturningz supply. Also, I have a memory of buying directly from Berea, but can't seem to find a link. Or is that Craft Supply?

I would probably be interested in this too. I think its a great idea and yet another good benefit from this wonderful site. Look forward to more information, and thank you for the thought and taking time to work it to fruition!
I have no preference on suppliers. I've not bought enough to know who has what or which is better in the long run. A few dollars here and there sound nice but quality and service are definately worth factoring in to the bottom line. I defer to the collective brain trust on those details.

Sounds like a good idea - I would probably be interested in a few kits if you can get enough people to make it worthwhile. As far as supplier preference, I voted for cheapest since I am just starting turning pens and really don't know a whole heck of a lot about which kits might be the best.

For me it's going to be about a quality-to-price match. I've ordered a good size bundle from Woodturningz before ... and the cheap ones were no good (the cheap metal clip would break almost every time), but the middle price ones were really nice (especially the gun metal kits).

I'm in though ... as long as it's not the cheapo stuff.

I'll have to see where I stand when you are ready to put a deal together, but I'm definitely interested and will likely join in.

Oh Jeff, don't fight it soo hard. It's really nice over here :-D

I still haven't heard back from woodturningz, I'll email them again tomorrow. I'm waiting for another reply from Arizona. I asked them a couple of questions you guys had.

Do any of you have any other dealers/retailers I should try to contact?

i'm in could we include some pen boxes too?

:roll::roll::roll: Oh Lord, not pen boxes again :eusa_doh::eusa_doh::eusa_doh:

If folks are interested, I set up a group buy a while ago for them. I could do it again or pass the torch and contact info to someone who might want to head it up.

Steve, Believe it or not it would be cheaper to go through Arizona than berea would have to buy about 1000 before berea would offer much of a discount.

I'm interested in the group buy i would only want the higher end pen kits though.

I'm in for a few kits as well. I personally like AZ Silhouette. Bill Baumbeck is great to work with and very accommodating. I'll probably only get three types of kits but I should be able to get a bunch of em (if I can just sell the last batch I made!)

Mr. Baumbeck is who I have conversed with over emails.

We need to get an order of 500 kits in order to qualify for an extra discount. Any combination of kits will be accepted. So we can order (not even possible I believe) 500 single kits or any combination of multiples. Boxes and bearings aren't included in our race to reach 500.

So, do you guys think we can reach that number?
I still haven't heard from woodturningz so it's looking like AS is who I'll be dealing with.

If you like Berea Hardwood Kits, might call them toll free at: 1-877-736-5487 and have a talk.

In their catalog and on their web site they say call for pricing on more than 100 kits.

While have not participated in their Crafter Program, might not be a bad deal for what folks want to order. You can mix & match kits.

No matter who you order from, would be interesting if they extend discounts to bearings & extra tubes as well.

You can also contact them at new URL: http://www.penkits.com
