Does anyone have any experience with this planer?
http://www.grizzly.com/products/G0505http://www.ncwoodworker.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=3027

I have been looking for an inexpensive, portable, but quality planer for a while, and for the price based on the reviews I have read this is sounding good.

It looks a little cheap/cheesy to me, but then again, I'm a little cheap and cheesy myself so it might not matter

I am going up to NY sometime in April, and my route takes me right past the Grizzly showroom in Muncy PA, so I was gonna stop in and get it if I convince myself. That would at least save me the shipping!

If space weren't such an issue, I could get this guy http://www.grizzly.com/products/G0477

but that would have to go in my house if I bought it!

Any feedback is welcomed

your first link goes to your table, which looks good, BTW.... Were I to hazard a guess, I would think this is the cheesy planer you were talking about. I know nothing about it, but there is a planer for sale on craigslist, from ridgid, which may also be worth a look.

edit:

sorry, planer was for sale on CL, guess it was sold...

lol. well, apparently I am a little off today ;) But thanks for the compliment. I fixed the link though.:BangHead:

yeah, you've gotta be quick to get the good deals from CL. See, I would have thought the same thing as you about the grizzly planer if I just looked at it, but I have read a ton of reviews from people who like it, which is giving me second thoughts. But then again, I don't know those people's background which is why I ask here

sorry, I was using your words describing the 'cheesy' planer. I will probably get the cheesy Delta from Lowe's, currently on sale for less than $200!!!!

maybe I ought to be the guinea pig and buy it and review it, and then we'll all know the real deal

Does everyone agonize over tool purchases like this???? I'm imagining it only gets worse with the price of the tool!

I think my wife may be worse. When she knows what I have in mind, I usually get in trouble :eusa_shhh

If I were you, I'd take advantage of the DeWalt DW734 3-blade planer deal at Amazon.com until March 16th -- $379 less $75 off coupon! I have a DeWalt DW733 (original two-blade version) and it is a very good planer. Of utmost importance (aside from the extra knife per revolution = smoother cuts), the DeWalt has a very good Lock-down feature that locks the planer head in position -- the Grizzly lacks this lock-down. I'm a Grizzly SuperFan -- I have 5 Grizzly tools, but I recommend you not buy their small planer. It has not done well in tool reviews either.

I went to that page and it says there's the 75 off, but there's also mention of a 50 dollar mail in rebate from dewalt. do both of these apply? if so, then I will be the proud owner of a new dewalt!

well, as far as I can figure, they both apply. The discount from amazon and the rebate are discounts from 2 totally different companies, so they shouldn't cancel each other out. The bad thing though is that shipping on the planer is $50. I was assuming that since it was amazon shipping was free, but it ships from a different vendor. So that $50 rebate basically cancels out the shipping. It's still a good deal, but a tad more than I was wanting to spend. Maybe I can find one used somewhere. I'm a big big fan of used tools

I am not sure about that partiular model, I have the older 12" version that I was purchased years ago, It's running strong, I made the woodmagazine stand with fold down tables for it and the snipe is all but gone. I also invested in the dispos-a-blade systme becouse I hate changing blades. All in all it has been a good performer, It will deff hold me over untill I get my 20in soon. Be blessed friend
