Hi all, thanks for the recent warm welcome to the site.

I was hoping that I could get your input on the above mentioned cabinet saws. I am looking to buy a new table saw and have done a ton of research (a lot on it has been on this site). I am starting to side with the Grizzly G1023S.. Models. From what I have read, they seem to be a solid machine with a reasonable price.

Mainly, I am wondering if it is worth going with the 5hp over the 3hp. Will I even benefit from the difference? The cost difference is not that great and the other features all seem to be very similar if not the same.

I also seriously looked at the PM2000, but the extra $1K is a hard sell (...to by better half!) and if I were to drop $2K + I would probably buy the SawStop.

Thanks,

MikeF

Mike,

My Grizzly G1023SLX has 3 HP and with the Forrest Woodworker II blade I have on it, it walks right through 8/4 white oak or ash without a whimper. I'd put the extra $100 into a good blade and the WWII is a great choice.

My experienced $0.02

Check out the Asheville Craiglist. There has been a 1023 on there for about a month and it is probably still for sale. I contacted the guy about it because that is the saw I eventually want to buy. I currently only have a carport and thought I just better wait rather than have a good saw being exposed to the elements. I think it has seen very little use, the reason for selling is the owner passed away unexpectedly. It belonged to a guy named Richard Dallera(sp), and it seems he was a very accomplished woodworker and you can find his work on the web if you do a search of his name. By the way, he's asking $700.

No problem. I was kind of keeping my eye on this saw but it's going to be several months at least before I build a shop. I'm still looking just in case a 'steal' comes along, I'll just have to store it until I get the shope done. I just passed up a Powermatic 66 I saw on the Atlanta Craiglist that was four years old with extension tables and Powematic mobile base for $1000. I wasn't considering buying a PM 66 due to cost, but for that price I would have jumped on it if I was ready to put it in service.

Mike,I was always taught the most important feature on a table saw is the fence. You want it to be true during the cut with the least amount of tail of at the end.I bought the DELTA 10" cabinet saw just for the Beismeyer fence .It was the best.I also love the Grizzly equipment. My planer,8"jointer,band saw are all Grizzly.Let us know what you think about Grizzly fence systems.T-MAN

T-Man, The fence is also a major selling point for me. The table saw I have now is a basic contractor saw that has travelled 1000's of miles with me in relocations. As a result, it is less than accurate without constant adjustment (reason I am looking to change). Grizzly is now selling the G1023 with the Shop Fox Classic Fence instead of the standard Grizzly fence. Do you have any idea where the Shop Fox fence ranks against other fences?

I have the Shop Fox Classic fence, and it is basially a Biese clone and it works as well. Easy to adjust, and it keep a setting very well.
