I recently got a new above mentioned jointed and have been having tons of issues with like everytime I edge joint a board I have to readjust the board. I have plenty of nice straight edges and checked that the tables are coplaner, it's a parallelogram jointer. Has anyone else had any issues/ problems with jointer? Also does anyone have the same model with good experiences with it? Most important if there's a grizzly jointer setup specialist anyone knows of please let me know, haha. Thanks so much

What do you mean by "readjust the board"? Are you saying you have to joint it again? Do you get a straight edge eventually? If you get a straight edge after several tries, it may be a technique issue. If the table are coplanar and the knives are set to be even with the outfeed table, then you should be all set. Is the cutterhead parallel to the tables?

Jonny,
Mike Davis is a "machine whisperer". I am afraid he is quite busy with some things of us own this summer, but he will likely chime in her and ask some questions, but if you are lucky, maybe you could get him to come out and review your set-up... in my opinion he charges too little for his knowledge and skillful solutions.

There is a bit more to it than just whether the tables are coplanar over their width and length but also whether or not your knives (all of them) and/or cutterhead are level (or to within a mil or so above) over their width with your outfeed table. If you have a quickset cutterhead you must level the cutterhead with the outfeed table and the outfeed table level to the knives, otherwise you can choose whether you prefer leveling knives to the cutterhead or to the outfeed table whenever you replace knives as it matters not so long as the knives end up level with your outfeed table. One must then also adjust the fence so that it is truly perpendicular with the tables before use and verify such with a triangle or square each time you move your fence or adjust outfeed table height (outfeed height should not need adjustment with any regularity after initial setup) -- do not count on the stops to ensure it remains square to the tables after moving the fence as they may be very close but are seldom perfect at maintaining square without double checking after adjustments. These are all normal setup items on a jointer and a part of the learning process.

You may wish to review an Article on Jointer setup that I wrote sometime back to see if you have covered all the bases and/or come across any useful suggestions.

Best of luck and I hope you are up and running soon!

If anyone has experiance with this model jointer or in general parallelogram jointers, anyone that would be available and willing to come and kinda guide me through the setup, which I've done so unless I really messed up its more like checking my work and giving advice. If anyone is willing or knows someone that can someone can recommend that'd be great and at this point I'm absolutely willing to pay fairly for anyone's time. Thanks so much

I feel your pain Jonny I have this jointer and have had nothing but problems with it. I've been through setup multiple times with no success. Does not seem to hold settings for me.

I have that same jointer except I have the spiral head cutter (0490X) and have had no issues with it. I hope someone can get you adjusted and working correctly.

Was just over there last night, not sure when I can return. Would love to see your guitar work.

Maybe we can work out a time to meet.
