My name is Michael, I live in Marshall. I work with wood when I have time.
Right now just working on a deck to set up a shed that I have. It has been fun. Looking into some FREE lumber at this time. Someone has an old barn taken down, and it is, come and get what you want.

I am a member of other forums, but how does the Downloading section work? I dont see any files to click to be able to download.:?:

Well everyone have a Happy New Years.

Welcome to the site Big Guy. I look forward to seeing you around. At the bottom of the file you want, you will see a little icon that looks like a computer, and with some text beside it that says Download here, it's a bit hard to see. Sorta like a snake.

Welcome Big Guy and good luck with your shed. Just be careful of snakes when you're scrounging through that free wood 8-O

Fivestring, you make me feel proud. Mine's 12x14, but you can be sure it's less organized! Sapwood

Thanks for all the greetings. Marshall is located North of Asheville, up Hwy 19-23 to Hwy 25-70.

I have a chance to get some old barn wood. I have been told it is pine but I am hopeing it is going to be better stuff. :-D
My friend is giving me a bunch of old OAK barn wood. I am getting it out of his yard and stacking it up in mine, something wrong with this picture.

I do most of my work in my basement that opens up to my back yard. Try to do most of my sawing outside.

Again, thanks to all.

Hey Mike, Welcome to the site -- it's always good to see another mountaineer woodworker -- I live in Hendersonville and there are other members out here in God's country, too! I'd be interested in any hardwoods that may be in the "old barn" stock, if it's available -- I love the story about your relocation of a pile from your buddy's yard to yours -- "his good stuff becomes your good stuff" -- sounds like guys at work!
Look forward to seeing pics of your shop, projects and shared info -- you'll love the site!

Greetings from another Westerner. I live in Horse Shoe and work in Asheville. Free wood sounds good to just about everyone, especially old barn wood. Even pine is gorgeous. You can't get the rich color and patina with "new wood". Take a look at Mshell's album, he's done some gorgeous stuff with old barn wood.

Hello Michael,
Glad you joined the group. I'm also a westerner and fairly new to the group. You'll find this to be a talented and witty bunch. Oh, I know several people that live in Marshall.
My Best

DaveO, How much oak barnwood do you need? I have a couple old barns that are falling in, one has some nice 2 x 10 oak floor joists. Of course there are a lot of nails to remove. I mostly have 100 year old logs that nobody wants.

My wife wants to do some paintings on old barn wood, so I would only need a few pieces that could result in 3/4" x 6" or so. She wants them glued together to make a "canvas". She is a very talented painter, and if I can do woodworking to please her interest (keep her out of my hair) then I'm a happy man. Now back to the regularly scheduled welcoming of a new member.
Dave:)
