Retired to my mountain home-place in 2020 and began converting the garage into a multi-purpose "man cave" that includes a one-car bay for a woodshop. Inspired by Roy Underhill and The Woodwright's Shop, I began my "woods work" by felling trees and making firewood. I progressed in a zig-zag fashion from green woodworking with adze and froe to power tools. Grandchildren came along and (thanks to David Wakefield and his book Animated Animal Toys in Wood: 20 Projects That Walk, Wobble and Roll) I completed a half dozen toys for them for Christmas a few years back. Now I'm looking to build a Moravian Workbench following Will Myers and developing new skills in hand tools and joinery. I could use a mentor to guide my apprenticeship...

Welcome Chuck. Wish I could help, but I live near Winston-Salem. Feel free to ask any questions about handtools.

Welcome!

If you're truly going to follow in yhe footsteps of Roy Underhill, stock up on bandaid. i don't think I ever saw an episode where he didn't have a bandaid or wasn't actively bleeding.

Hey, Rich! I noticed you're in Pittsboro. I've got cousins in Bear Creek/Siler City. Always wanted to go to the Woodwright's School in Pittsboro. I stopped by one Sunday to peek through the windows, but never enrolled.
