Well y'all saw what was my next project in an earlier thread
http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2392
I haven't gotten as far as I would like, but due to several requests for WIP pics here they are

Starting with rough air dried QSWO
GGtableandteahouse002.jpg

I rough cut to a manageable length and width for my jointer

GGtableandteahouse003.jpg

The jointed one face, planed the other side and reduced the thickness to 3/4" (some to 1/2" :BangHead: due to bad twist or cupping), and then edge jointed to 4-square. Then I glued up the best looking boards to form the top.

I also took some of the more riff sawn boards and glued them up to be my leg stock. While jointing those glue-ups square I noticed my DC wasn't working right..
Lesson learned! after a couple planing sessions with Arcrist, empty the DC before running another 35 BF through the planer. I filled the chip separator, lower dust bag and started filling up the top :BangHead: :BangHead:
What a PITA to clean out
GGtableandteahouse006.jpg

After cleaning that mess up, and letting the top glue up dry. I made the bread board ends. I ended up using my router and straight edge to form the tenons, and dado set for the groove. The were attached using Walnut dowel in elongated holes except in the center.

GGtableandteahouse007.jpg

I also router out recesses in the table to match the groove in the BB end and installed Walnut splines, glued only into the table field so they could move in and out of the BB end groove as the wood moves.

The dowels will be cut and sanded flush, and the splines will be left proud and rounded to hide any movement of the top.

Well that is all I have for now, a few screw-up (well hidden) slowed down my progress. Next the leg joinery, aprons and drawer assembly.
Stay tuned to your favorite woodworking site for more developments.
Thanks for looking,
Dave:)

Looking good.
Did you run the dowels up from the bottom just through the tennon into the top wood so they can only be seen from the bottom, or did you run them all the way through?

All the way through, due to one of my brain farts. I thought that it would be better to have a thicker tenon than 1/4" so I made it 3/8" and when I tried to drill stopped holes the Forstner bit point poked through. Hence through doweling. It's my rendition of the table, so I meant to do that:lol:

Been there, done that, got a t shirt on overfilling the dust collector when I had the bag unit. It is a big mess to clean up that is for sure. Looks like you did a very nice job matching the grain up on the top.

Top looks great, so far DaveO.

The BB ends are really unique. Grain match looks swell! (I will have to hang on to this little chronological sequence of pictures to show my LOML just how much I would benefit from having my own jointer and planer! Oh ya, I'll also have to point the DC requirement to her as well!:BangHead: )

Thanks so much for the review!

Looking good Dave, I'd blame the dowels on the meds.

I wish, just plain old fashion "design modification". Meds and power tools don't mix, stupidity and power tools doesn't either, but if I avoided the latter I would never get into the shop:lol:

Looking good Dave.......looking good!:icon_thum I really like the way the BB turned out and the through dowels will look good also. I thought there would have been more contrast between the walnut splines and the QSWO. I look forward to your next set of WIP pix.

Nice job Dave! Looks like you've made a lot of progress. I hope you're not pushing that knee too much! You don't want to wind up back at the surgeon's office again:eusa_naug .
Take care,

Looking good Dave. 2,500+ posts, knee surgery and you still manage to get more done in your shop than I do  ... so I'm signing off and heading out the door....

Nice looking so far, Dave. Woodworkers are optimists...we always turn an oops into a design feature!

BTW, I thank you for the triangle. Amazing that I've been doing the WW thing for several years now and didn't have a clue how simple it could be. Chalk?

No problem, I think I got the triangle witness mark from David Marks. It's as great way to keep your board orientation straight. Yes, it is chalk. The nice thing about having a 2 yr. old is that I have lots of chalk lying around.
