First time putting barrel hinges on small box. Certainly seems like you need to add epoxy or something so it won't fall out and I figure Tite Bond won't work on metal. It's the 5mm hinge that doesn't have a set screw for tightening as some of the larger ones do.

Sure, I could find something to use, but you folks could tell me the "best" glue(s) to use, hopefully!

Depending on how well I drill the hole, sometimes I don't use glue, they fit very tight. But on the times when I'm a little sloppy with the hole, I've used a drop of CA in the bottom of the hole. Glue on side at a time so the CA doesn't run onto the hinge knuckle. Use only 1 small drop or you could end up with lid supports not hinges DAMHIKT:eusa_doh: :BangHead:

Sapwood, I have used just about any glue with equal success. Just as Dave said use a toothpick and carefully place the glue to keep it out of the pivot points. Make sure you work the hinge as the glue is curing if you get any squeeze out. It takes very little glue to do this job....

My first time with barrel hinges I did a beautiful job on the holes and then put the barrels in facing the wrong way (uh lid won't open  ) I didn't catch it until I squeezed the top on. Your right Dave O, those suckers grab real well if the holes are tight :eusa_whis

I have no idea, but I bet you didn't know all the potential pitfalls (putting them in backwards...) either. Isn't this group wonderful?

Roger, I have only used the 5 mm hinges a few times and I was able to just press them in to hold them in place. However, on the Brusso lid supports I have to use epoxy to hold the pin for the arm in the lid. I like the CA approach mentioned above, and if you go that route I would recommend using the thicker "gap filling" type CA glue. I think I will use that approach as I finish a few boxes I am working on now.
