They look great! They look fantastic considering the wood you had to work with.

What kind of corner joint did you make with that thin stock? They look tight and strong.

Mike---------the corner joints are rabbeted joints, the width of the side panel and half the thickness of the front and back panels. I shyed away from miters and dovetails :rolf:.

As so often happens, I grossly underestimated the time to do them. I have over 3 weeks and getting near 4 in doing them.

Thanks for the kind words BTW.

Jerry you did a great job with that wonderful stock you started with! :icon_thum

I like the way each one is a little different. Were you able to wrap the grain on all of them?

They look really dressed up with the felt/flocking. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

WOW!!! How much additional wood did you have to use?

You need to take some more pictures and save them up for next years calendar contest. They turned out awesome. I can sincerely say I would have never believed you could get that much out of that pitiful pile of wood you had to work with.

Chuck

Chuck----------Unfortunately I could not wrap the grain on any of them. I just had to try to find a piece as near as possible in color to the mating side. The lining in the lid and small trays is velvet and the drawers have inserts bought from Fetpak some time ago. The inserts are plastic that I assume had been flocked. I turned all the knobs for the drawers on the lathe. The knobs of each box match the wood used on the base and lid trim.

Thanks for the good words!!

I have not done a footage tally on the additional lumber used. I used poplar for the drawer sides (5 drawers), some 1/4" plywood for the drawer bottoms and in the lids to add a little thickness and have something to glue the dogwood inserts to (thus the reason for lining the inside of the lid with velvet). Then there was a little walnut, cherry, butternut, red oak and mahogany for the bases and lid perimeters.

I may have been able to use a little more dogwood for dividers in the trays but it was hard to figure out if there would be enough material to do that.

It was unknown to begin with who the guy was that was supposed to have done the boxes for this man. It turns out that the guy was my good friend, Steve Hooper, who passed away earlier in the year. Maybe I had a little help from beyond---------strange how things work out sometimes.:eusa_thin
