When I first got on North Carolina Woodworker I read a post saying how they let the DC get to full and it went up into the filter. I sat here and would think to myself How in the world can you be that busy that you couldn't empty the bag.
Well I have been working in the shop alot lately and I have let it get to full the last two times. I laughed as I was scooping chips out so I could get the bag off.

Yeah ... I can relate. I've thought the same thing "how couldn't they tell" ... then I did it about 2 months ago and created a big mess. :slap:

I always remember to empty my DC can and bag when the chips start flying out of the machine with the DC running :eusa_doh::eusa_doh: I'm amazed to see how quickly you can fill one up while prepping rough sawn stock.

That's right, you upgraded to that Delta planer. You get all warm and happy planing and thinking about how great things are going until you realize your dust collector isn't big enough anymore and it's time to get a larger one!!!!

Alan, I am building a bin sensor patterned after yours and will document it after I am fully recovered from my shoulder surgey (rotator cuff), scheduled for February 13th. I have all of the components and have the preliminary wiring done for the 30 Amp relay and the DPDT relay that the photocell will energize. I plan on writing up a piece that I can upload to the Library for others to use and will certainly give you full credit for the idea and first implementation.

Thanks. I am working up a WW magazine tip submission on it. I also want to do a companion piece on extending the pipe down into the dust drum, but since I don't use a dust drum I need to scare up a cheap one around here, but so far no luck.

I'm working on a few sources in this area for fiber drums to use. You might contact Chuck Powell to see if he can get one or more as he told me that his company used them. I do have a new 30 gallon galvanized trash can that I can use, but IMHO, it is less than ideal due to limited size. Depending on the final height of my ClearVue, I may build an air tight plywood bin that I could put large bags into to catch the sawdust. Like you, bin capacity is a concern for me since it is a floor below (and my crawl space is not as easy to access as your garage!) I don't want to be emptying the darn thing every day!

Once I do a draft drawing of the circuit I'm doing, I'll run it by you for comment.
