From log to bowl

I was going thru some paperwork and found this chart. I thought it would be helpful to people who are new to turning to understand what to do with a log they want to cut up into turning blanks.
So I thought I would post it here for everyone. Hope it helps!!

Garybeard, Thanks for the diagram, I don't know how people would take to leaving bark on bowl blanks and all but the picture are indeed helpful to me.

Hey did you know the word elder mean gray beard?

jeff....bark left on the bowl blanks is quite popular because it produces a "Natural Edge" bowl like this:

Not mine, but a turner by the name of Dinyar Chavada. Birch natural edge bowl.
