My experience with a scroll-saw tells me spiral blades don't cut as smoothly as a good regular toothed blade.

They don't last long either, IME. But even if you use it on a board too wide to reach from the side, you can do a low angle cut from most of the way down one side to the other corner and just leave a little hanging chad to pare off.

I got my new Knew Concepts 5" fret saw. I bought the no-frills version and I already like it.
Blade changing and tensioning were easy and it sure makes for quick work when removing dovetail waste

I don't know why people use coping saws for dovetails. The waste support the chiseling on the other side. Seems like an unnecessary step to me.
