I have some belts to trade or give away.
16 6x60 80 grit AL oxide. Carborundum # 31157

You pay the postage or come by the shop.

Cut down a large Persimmon tree two years ago. It's in 3 -4 foot lengths
and about 15" diameter at the base. It's beginning to spalt.

There is more than I have time to mess with, so if someone wants a bit, come by. I'll not mail it.

Suggest you send a PM to handturnedbowls about the persimmon tree as he is a turner that uses storm damaged trees for his bowl stock -- I'd take you up on the belts, but my stationary belt sander is a 6" x 48" and I have plenty of belts for it.

Steve,

I've no idea of what the grain and color look like in Persimmon wood. Do you, or anyone on the site have a photo of anything made from Persimmon?

I might have an interest in some for turning, if I had an idea of what it looks like and how easy or difficult it is to work.

If you play golf, then you know what percimmon looks like. The heads on woods used to be made from percimmon.

Steve,
You've got PM. I have visions of Krenov style cabinet doors! Anyone have a chainsaw lumber jig in the Charlotte/Greensboro area??

My old driver thru 5 wood are made of persimmon (yes, I still play with them) if you want an idea of what persimmon looks like. IIRC, persimmon is a cousin of maple, and extremely hard.

Actually Persimmon is more closely related to Ebony than Maple. Still very hard though:-D Maple is in the Aceraceae family while Persimmon (Disopyros virginiana/kaki) is in the Ebonaceae family. Sorry I am a botanical name/fact wasteland..I guess it has to do with my profession. Either way both woods would surely knock a ball well into the rough:BangHead:
Hence the reason I don't golf:eusa_doh:

thank you. I am very effective at losing balls with the persimmons. They don't go very far compared to the metal woods I have hit, but they get the ball just as lost.

I could carve some new heads from the persimmon...or I could play with a 2x4. At my skill level it would make no difference.
Me playing golf is kinda like an easter egg hunt with Tourret's syndrome:lol:

I figure I get much more for my money when I golf than the good players do. They don't get to see as much of the course as I do, or learn how to hit out of as many challenging locations. When they are shooting 70 and I shoot 105, I am having 150% the fun they get!

Once upon a time and in another Persimmon, I threw done on a slab with my .44 mag.

Was shooting a moderate load and a lead bullet from about 30 feet.

Half a dozen bullets bounced off the persimmon.
