Each discussion forum should have at least one moderator, if not two. Each moderator should probably cover 2 forums. If possible, one of the moderators, should be well versed on the subject, so that they may provide a reasonably correct response to the subject matter.
Each post must be read for appropriateness. Threads should be moved when they are posted in the wrong forum. Threads should be split when they go too far off topic. Threads should be stuck or closed when appropriate.
Forum Moderators have generally become lax in the areas of housekeeping, We need to give this more attention. One area that we need to add is thread closing. I once proposed that threads be closed after there have been no responses after a certain period of time. I was voted down.:crybaby2:
But looking at some threads, I believe I was right. I see a lot of dormant threads that come back to life in a way that adds nothing or doesn't get the type of response it deserves. Or in a recent case:
SteveD posted in a thread that he would be glad to help people with their shop lighting issues. That was , relatively, a long time ago. A new member saw that and requested help from Steve. That member got no response. He may have felt slighted and Steve may not have time to do that any more and didn't respond.
So from now on moderators should close a thread that has been dormant for over 30 days.
