I'm new to turning myself so I've been looking around trying to find out as much as I can. I stumbled on http://www.woodturningz.com/ and discovered they discount PSI products. That includes PSI products that aren't listed on the woodturningz Web site so if you don't see it, call and ask. I've gotten some pen kits and blanks from them already and I'm very pleased. They keep shipping costs low ($4.75 USPS for 5 blanks, 2 sets of bushings, a bit, and 15 pen kits) and were very friendly and responsive when I called with a question. Whether or not they can get you a break on the starter set I don't know but when you need other things I think they'd be a good starting point.

I have quite a few things from PSI and I have generally been pleased with their products. However, the pre-drilled pen blank sets I bought were just random collections of wood, no grain or color matches that I could see. They were great for practicing on though. On the other hand I got one of their Maxi-Mandrels and they sent a #1 MT when I ordered a #2. One phone call and they expedited the right one the next day at no charge and I didn't even have to return the first one.

FWIW I say pull the trigger! I have a Rikon 70-100 I got on sale and if it weren't so heavy I'd carry it around with me and play during coffee breaks at work.

:rotflm: Believe me Tracy I will have plenty blanks with me making picture frames for my scrolling- sure hope you can use all of the ones I brought to you

I purchased this same package 2 monts ago, I cant keep my hands off of it. Pens are a quick and easy project that you can do when you have a few minuets to kill. The 10" swing allows for some larger projects as well.

PSI is great to work with and shipping is fast. I will say that if I were to do it over Iwould buy the VS version.

Buy it and have fun

Don't worry Philip. I have enough almost project wood to keep several people turning.

Thanks for the info Ted - I have been looking at this one for awhile now - right now it is just a dream/goal - maybe someday I will be able to get it
