LOL...actually those are all the rage, right now. Prickly cactus pens are quite popular. If you think that is funny, the real comedy comes when you see the people who are trying to get the same results with a loofa sponge because of the lack of availability of cacti in their region :rolf:

They do make very cool pens, though!
...and what do you mean calling me a freak!??!

This guy posts over at the IAP, and also offers those blanks there. He also gave a detailed how to make these at one point in time. I read how he did it, and thought to myself... Holy cow.. I can't believe the imagination some people have. These are wonderful blanks.

Yah, that's Curtis Seebeck (aka MesquiteMan) and he is the originator of the Prickly Pear cactus pen blank. They make really unique pens. He actually partially funded the adoption of his daughter with proceeds from them and other turning blanks.
It's very cool that he will warranty he blanks against the customers mistakes. You mess it up, send him a pic and he will replace it at 1/2 price. He has stood by that offer in the past :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Way back when they were first posted I was the one who suggested Loofa instead. They have also been made with reindeer moss.
Since there is no challenge to turning an acrylic blank(Finishing) I didn't bother to persue it.I dont make resin blanks.
The world has too many plastic pens as it is.Take a look at Wal mart.
The actual cost to make the blanks is less than $5.00 each. Most acrylic blanks that are "home brewed" are less than $.30.
I was given some cactus blanks to play with by D.C.bluesman that he made himself. He was selling his for $5.00 but Curtis protested because he thought he invented them.
Embedding material in acrylic has been done for quite a while, just look at the t shirt shops in the tourist traps.
