Over Thanksgiving my in-law and BIL were admiring the elevated dog feeder I made a while ago for our dawg.
This morning talking with my wife about what we were going to get them for Christmas she mentioned that I should make the dog feeders for them. No problem except they have 3 dogs that don't play well when food is involved. So I would have to make 3 dog feeders.
I hate production woodworking :no:
I got a good start on them today. I still have to final sand, cut out the holes for the bowls (haven't bought them yet) and finish them.

Walnut legs and aprons with wild-grained, very light colored Red Oak tops.

I got the Red Oak from Ivey, and thought it was White Oak due to the color. But once I cut into it, I knew it was Red Oak. It has some very distinctive grain to it and a little curl -

Very nice Dave...those must be some tall dogs! :rolf: How did you attach the aprons to the legs?

Yeah, they don't play well with each other, but will stand on each others backs to eat. Takes up less space that way :gar-La;:gar-La;
These are assembled with pocket screws....my secret to getting it all done in a day :icon_thum

Rock on Dave. Those dogs are going to love um cause it gets um that much closer to the food. What finish you gonna use on the top? I've been pondering what to use for the top of my new ones but my dogs drip like Saint Bernards and the polyurethane I used long ago on the old ones didn't hold up well to all the water abuse. I was going to try and use a stone top(granite or marble) until I got a price est. from some local stone dealers-they wanted ~120 bucks for (1) 15" x 25" piece polished with 2 holes cut in it. Crazy fools!

I like that! And my Old Dobie would like it even more! I've glued up, cut out, cut the holes for the top out of cherry...being a newbie to woodworking, I wasn't sure about the appron, legs, attaching to top, etc....tapering the legs, mortise and tenon, etc. I think I'll get that Kreg pocket hole set I haven't used yet down off the shelf and attack it that way! Wonder if I can figure that out? Nice job as always! Thanks for the pics!

Great work Dave! Those are nicer than most of the stuff I build for humans. :roll: :rolf:

Somebody else already asked, but I'm also interested to know what you're going to finish them with. :eusa_thin

Hey, what gives? They look suspiciously like harpsichord benches. If I had known you were going into production, you could have made an extra one for me and saved me a lot of time. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Dave, I was a little worried...everything is new to me and a first in woodworking. My skills are limited to say the least. Mortise and tenon was where I was going, but when you mentioned pocket-holes, I figured that might be a way that I could handle for now. 1 coat of BLO and will wait a week and put a coat of spar varnish, just in time for Christmas for my dog Commanchee. Thanks again for the inspiration!
