Okay, many years ago I was wandering in Northern Tools and found a Record Fitter's Vise sitting on a shelf. This is a machine vise with a trigger like the Record woodworking vises. Being smitten with gadgetry, naturally I bought it. I have never used it, but always thought it would come in handy. My other machine vise has a regular screw and I counted the revolutions to fully open it and it took 29 turns of the handle. With the fitter's vise it would be slide the jaw to approximate position and tighten with the handle. I can see how this would work with a piece that needed to be repositioned frequently.
Back to the present, I now can see that I will never use this fitter's vise. So I posit the question, is this actually a useful tool or is it just a decorative piece?
