Here is the first small box that I have made since starting to turn. I made it as a baby shower gift for my daughter to hold a very small bracelet for our soon to be born grandaughter(End of June). It is made out of Canarywood, which turns easy and finishes well.
I also made a pen out of the same wood as a prize for someone at the shower! It is the third one I have made.:)

The box is awesome, but the carving/engraving on the top really makes it extra special. Thanks for showing it off. I had to throw a teaser pic into your post for the speed readers :-D

Very nice little box, Pat. Never turned canary wood as a box but it sure likes it makes a nice box. Good job and keep 'em coming.

Really nice box, Greybeard! That will make a really special keepsake. The Canarywood looks good and takes finish really well. Also, a good job on the pen!

Pete,
Yes I do..... Maybe this week, hopefully. I have been teaching another of my daughters and her husband how to turn pens because her husband's mother and father and step-mother have birthdays due some time soon.

Plus I am still working on the cradle for the grandaughter due in June. I thought I was going to have it done in time for the baby shower, but between the doctors and everything else, I am not even close. As soon as I get some stuff turned, I will post them.

PS: Thanks for the logs! :icon_thum

Dave,
That was my daughters idea. After she saw the box, she wanted to try out the powercrafter Air Turbine tool she got at the Charlotte WWS in Feb 06. It works great!

If you want a tool that will engrave anything from egg shells to glass and steel, check it out!:icon_thum

Nice work! That canarywood sure does turn like a dream. I love it. The grain on that box is super. I really like the carving. Did you freehand that carving? or use a pattern or something? Regardless.. super!

Clay, Check out my reply to DaveO's post about the box. It was a freehand carving done by one of my daughters. She is quite an artist and now that she has her engraver, she can do all kinds of stuff. Stay tuned!
I have a feeling she will be using it again soon.
