First house/workshop!

And more importantly, the 18x23.5 future basement workshop space!

We got married in July and this is the first house for both of us. We're closing on 2/23. Yes,I know, a dehumidifier is going down there before my uni makes it down there...

Wow, what an exciting time in y'alls lives. I remember when my wife and I got our house right after we got married, it was a great feeling. That's a nice looking house and the landscape looks pretty nice also. In addition to the dehumidifier in the basement shop I would suggest some more lighting LOL :lol: :lol:

Thanks for the kind words all! Now you know why i've been absent so much...

I'll second the lights. I need to ask SteveD for some lighting advice. I have this strange feeling that I'm going to spend a freaking mint on fluorescent light fixtures. Because of the beam in the middle, my initial anticipation is for 4, 4' double bulb fixtures on each side of the beam (8 total). I'm hoping to get the type with the white reflective part above the lamps and semi-recess them between the floor joists to same my noggin...
Anybody have a good source for reasonably priced fluorescent fixtures? I've looked at the BORG, but after reading SteveD's-awesome-all-inclusive-encyclopedia-of-shop-lighting, I'm afraid that I may want to look for something of higher quality and a better brand. If I'm going to invest in something as important as shop lighting, I'd prefer to only do it once.

Chris, congrats on your marriage and buying your first home. That is so great! I know that you'll enjoy "making it yours". SteveD might have a good source for those lights in addition to suggesting the potential design.

Congrats Chris. I remember buying my first house well. It was a great feeling. We had to sleep in the floor of the house for over a week waiting on our furniture to arrive. Even with sleeping on the floor we loved it.

Ah yes, I remember the same experience of sleeping bags and a hot plate as we first moved into our first house nearly 40 years ago! I had a corner bench and a few hand tools in the garage for my shop and no basement. But with my new wife and the adventures of graduate school, we were as happy as we've ever been -- enjoy your years together and enjoy the luxury of starting out with a marvelous shop space equipped with real tools!
