I've turned mounds of euros, slimlines, and fountains... but here's my first attempt at a cigar. It's bocote and I used a wood-n-whimsies kit. The finish is CA topped off with Mylands for good measure. I reckon I'll do a few more now that I have the hang of it ;-).

Cigars are one of my favorite kits. Relatively cheap, but good looking and their large diameter really shows off the wood. Very nice job on your first one.

Bob, that is a nice looking pen. I like the bocote also. What is the kit number you used? I think you have inspired me to try one also. I've turned a few slimlines and a couple of euros so I'm ready for something else.

Was the kit a RZ-CIG1 Satin Pearl?

Thanks folks. The cigar is an enjoyable kit :). I've prepped three more kits for tomorrow... cocobolo, figured padauk, and purpleheart. Can't wait :eusa_danc.

Splinter, it is as you note an RZ-CIG1 Satin Pearl kit from WnW. Haven't liked all the kits from them, but this one seems fine. Good luck!

Great job on the cigar!
A long time ago I got confused while making one and screwed up the order of the bushings/tubes.
The size of the bushings is close on some of the matching pieces and the tubes are also close in lenght to each other.
With those variables in mind I made up a way of remebering where each goes.
The tube that takes the nib is longer so starting with the nib end (Out of habit I put the nib at the headstock but the larger piece should go at the tail stock I suppose)
From the nib end the order of the bushings are:
Smallest, second biggest, biggest, second smallest
The sceond smallest being the bushing for the finial.

Thanks folks. I appreciate your thoughts! :-D
Eagle, I know what you mean. I had to break out the calipers to make sure I had it right .

The pen looks great and I second Eagle that the finish is outstanding. I hope to do some cigar pens when I finish building my workbench base.
