Hi All,

I am installing knotty pine paneling in my basement and was wondering the best way to finish the paneling. I do not want to darken the color, and I want to avoid the blotching and sap issues I might run into. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks!!!

If you don't want to darken/change the color, then I would recommend Shellac. A blond or super blond shellac shouldn't have much effect on the color, won't blotch and should seal in the sap. If you use a de-waxed shellac then you could top coat it with a polyurethane for extra protection (water-borne poly would give the least color change). My .02, Dave:)

Yep I agree with Dave dewaxed shellac will seal it up, and can be top coated with what ever you chose:icon_thum

Specifically, I'd use Zinsser's SealCoat. It's a 2lb, dewaxed, premixed shellac. Works great as a sealer.
