Hi Folks,
I wanted to post the final product I came up with.
The display with the red background was the original I saw on the web.
The display I made was made for a Civil War Officer's Sabre.
I wanted to thank the people who helped me come up with this.
I was going to build a box of walnut or figured maple.
Jeff...., your suggestion to keep the case plain to draw the attention to the sword was excellent. thanks. It made me remember this was for a friend's families heritage, not for my display.
McRabbet, I used a modified version of your handle idea. I have a 6" long 1/4 round dado for a finger pull area on the bottom of the door.
The hinge hardware is not seen except if you look down from the top.
Christopheratan...My lighting dilemma was solved when the person I'm making this for told be he installed track lighting on the ceiling.

Thanks for all of your inspiration.

Ron

PS...the Blue background was not a mistake. Yes his gr.gr grandfather was a yankee.....

Great work, Ron!!!

What is the red background on the 2nd case (jpeg) made of? Felt? Sure is striking!

These cases are definitely wonderful showcases for the "weapons"!

You should be very, very proud of the results!:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Hi Wayne,
I can't take credit for the red one.
It was a picture I used from the web as my "inspiration".
It does have a red velvet background.

Sorry Ron, I missed that in your original post.:slap:

The "Yankee version" is impressive as well! Hope that you will be able to get a shot with the sabre(s) mounted as well.

I am sure that it will be very well received!

First-rate display Ron! Tight mitres and finish :icon_thum
I have a friend who made a similar display for his great-grandfather's sword (also a Yankee ). I'll have to suggest that he add the felt background, it really makes the sword stand out.

Here it is with the new tennant.
My old neighbor has it up and displayed already.
Thanks again for all of the inspiration.

WOW Ron......the case looks fantastic!

The simplicity of your design, coupled with great craftsmanship has provided a winning combination!

Looks even better with the sword installed and mounted!

Great work and I am sure that it is very much appreciated.
