Need Advice Finding Value in my father's 1950's (?) 10" brace and egg beater drill.

I didn't know what I had until this week as I began to review tools required to build Will Myers' Moravian Workbench. I'll need several Jennings/Irwin-style auger bits(#6, #10, #12 & #16) for may dad's brace.

Any one here @NCWW have quality boring bits to sell? Or any recommendations to bridge a 1950's brace to modern auger bits?

I've seen some discussion re: Wood Owl auger bits but I don't know if the modern hex shank will work with my dad's toothless alligator jaw...

I appreciate your sage advice.

After lots of searching and lots of junk, rusty, broken bits I did manage to find a nice set from a private seller. I figure that I could keep them sharp but he no idea and no success rehabbing and sharpening the sketchy ones.

I know Tools for Working Wood sells new auger bits. Look good but pricey-

Also, Taytools has an “adapter” -

Hey Chuck.
Id love to see your Monrovian bench when your done. I've been highly considering making myself one as well. I just ordered the Lake Erie Tool works Vise Kit last Friday during the black Friday sale. And I'm currently on the hunt for a nice White oak slab to use as a top. Id also like to hear from you if you have any tips come up!

Thanks, T. You're already way ahead of me. I purchased the pdf plans and the 6-hour how-to video from Wood and Shop.com last month. I'm taking an inventory of hand tools I still need; have not bought any lumber yet. I wish I could help you with the white oak slab... I harvested several red & white oaks in August but have not slabbed anything yet. Congrats on your new Lake Erie Toolworks Vise Kit! May the forest be with you.
