We are considering having a "mini" Hand Tool Olympics at the picnic.
Following are some of the ideas and I will post another thread with a poll to get everyone's input.

(You can pick multiple items in the poll!)

Handsaw -

Rip a board -
Saw to a line
The event would be timed
Judged for: square and true

Cross-cut -
Saw to a line
The event would be timed
Judged for: square and true

Bit and Brace

Bore a hole - horizontal or vertical

The event would be timed
Judged for: size and square and true with a test dowel

Guess the wood contest
There would be a number of "blanks" and a sheet where you would Guess the wood.

We love leaders who think up good stuff Hank! And how about a prize for each winner? Something like 1st Prize, 1 week all expenses paid stay in Newton. 2nd prize, 2 weeks all expenses paid in Newton, or something else....

Hang on for the prize (s) - I want to see if there is interest first - MANY people have viewed this thread, but only a handful have voted in the poll!!!
I want to make sure there is some REAL interest in doing this.

Have you considered a Show And Tell event, with a Woodworker's Choice Award? As you may recall, it was very well accepted at the Mid-Winter Picnic with a large number of participants. The prize was also a very nice moisture meter for that event. Just saying Hank....

Great Idea Bruce, but we need to file that idea away for next year.

I think this will be very entertaining and fun to watch. Something more that puts the woodworking right up front. In fact it might be more interesting than turning demos.
