George, i split your introduction post to it's own post. That way it won't get lost in the original thread. Oh.. Welcome to the site! I stop by lexington BBQ every time I travel from Raleigh, to Hickory. I love that stuff.

Welcome George,
I am a newbie to this site as well. But I must say everyone has already made me feel quite at home. The folks here are funny, helpful and the previous threads have been very informative.
When you get the opportunity, show us some of your work. We would love to see it.

Welcome George, I am surprised that you haven't started a mini civill war with your BBQ comment. Some people are very opinionated about their BBQ tastes. See you around. Dave:)

Personally, I've been waiting for the BBQ battle to begin. Perhaps when Insominac gets on...

I remember the thread on Woodnet. Steve asked if a site dedicated to NC would fly. DaveO said absolutely not, and he doubted he would ever spend much time on it, and then everything else fell out to talk about BBQ.

George, welcome aboard -- You may have noticed a little change, but we are all happy to see you here -- don't be timid -- we all like to share! And, by the way, I just love good old NC pig pickin's! And woodworking...

Hey wait a minute! I thought Mshel said Wilson was the BBQ capitol of NC. Maybe we should have both Mshel and George bring 10 lbs of BBQ to our next NC WW'er gathering so we all can judge for ourselves.

Oh, yeah......George, welcome to the site. I am glad you elected to join us and I can't wait to taste some of that Lexington BBQ. Seriously, I think you will find this site both informative and entertaining. I look forward to reading your input to the forums as well as seeing photos of your projects and pig-pickin's.

I don't think I said "absolutely not", but I will admit that I didn't think another site could take the place of Woodnet...boy I was wrong!!!

But my point and prolly not well worded was how that discussion turned to BBQ. A very good reason to start a site where someone's serious inquiry isn't turned into trivial banter, or worse insulting mockery.

Sorry to kind of hijack your welcome but I've got to ask:

To start a site where someone's serious inquiry isn't turned into trivial banter, or worse insulting mockery?

Cathy, I don't know if you have been to Woodnet. I great place for information but you need a very tough skin. They may have coined the phrase "search for it", and the Wn search function is totally useless.
Steve inquired about any interest in the starting of a site for NC woodworkers, there was a few serious reply made but the the topic got hijacked and turned into a very long conversation about the different types of BBQ in NC. Many people have posted questions on that site that never get answered because they may have misspelled a word, or phrased their question in a way that some found to be stupid, or just generally asked a simple question and were met with ridicule and insults.

I addition to Steve's interest in this site being a place to local information on where to obtain woodworking supplies, I think he also meant it to be a place that was always friendly, and willing to offer assistance to any member regardless of how simple their question is or poor their spelling or wording is.

Does that make more sense? Sometime I should just keep my convoluted thoughts to myself...they make sense to me, generally not anyone else.

Dave:)

Hi George,
Glad you could join us.

Man this is becoming a popular place. Kinda makes you feel special that you live in the Carolinas.

But then, have you seen the census data lately. People are STILL coming to our nice little state in droves from all over. Pretty soon Raleigh is going to look like New York City traffic, or...does it already?

Good thing there is wood working to relieve the stress of modern life!

Nothing soothes me like turning wood, all that tension just melts away.
