Dust collection idea... is this just plain stupid?

If you have any inclination to condition your shop area air, you'll also be exahusting all that heated or cooled air. I'm for filtering and leaving it inside. During certain weather conditions you'll be bringing in really damp or cold air, neither of which I think you would want.

One could do a bit of math and estimate the cost to periodically exhaust heated garage air through the outside vacuum system. In a woodworking shop some air exchange might be desirable simply from an air quality viewpoint. Most shops generate some dust that escapes the vacuum system: sanding, drilling, etc. In my shop, the vacuum system is operating a very small percentage of the total time when the shop is being kept warm
