Hey friends,, The used drill press I purchased is a strong runner, its just that the chuch is messed up and is out of tollerence. I want to replace it, but dont have the foggiest idea how to do it. Anyone don that yet? Any suggestions? What type and manufacture would be a good one. Thanks for your help and be blessed.

The chuck is held in place by a Morris Tapered shaft. There may be a key to drive it back out, or you could very carefully use a block of wood and a mallet on the sides of the chuck. Once you've removed the old chuck, buy a replacement and drive it back in place. Sorry I have no recommendation as to what kind to replace it with.

Michael, my Rigid DP came with a wedge shaped key that fits into a hole on the side of the spindle. You just insert the key (a screw driver should work) and tap it until it pushes the MT shaft out. You might try to take it out, clean it, and reinstall it to see if that corrects the problem before you buy a new chuck. Unless the jaws of the chuck is what is screwed up.
