drawer construction
About to make drawers for my walnut nightstand. Two openings are the same with one being just slightly smaller in height. I have read through the guidelines from a chest of drawers from one of Norm Abrams books so I have a good idea how to go about it. Dealing with only one drawer opening I have an opening of 22" side and 5"" high.
My drawer front is to be dovetailed so I added 3/8th inch for overlap on the width and 1/8th " higher for overlap.
This makes my front 22 3/8 wide and 5 1/8 high.
My concern is the thickness in the width that allows for moisture. These above measurements are for the exact fit of the opening. Will 1/8th allowance be enough.
I am also reading that the sides should be 1/8 " less on the sides and 1/2 " less on the height in the back.
Any advice or suggestion would be helpful. I have the boards planned to thickness waiting for the proper sizing.
Thanks for the help.
I plan to dovetail the front and back.
