Downloading pics

I have an old Dell laptop from work that hasn't been used in years (since the 'berry took over and before). I plan to use it as a platform to display a slide show of our gallery photos at the Wood Worker Show in CLT. I tried to click & drag photos from the gallery to the flash drive I'll use for the pics, but it would only copy the thumbnail and not the full photo unless I opened the photo. With an 8gb flash drive I could put a lot of pics on there and I wanted to know if there is a faster method for transfer.

Would you like specific pics, random sample or "all of them"?

We have about 24 Gig of pics total.

I think random for some but would also like to include stuff like picnic/shop crawl pics. Definitely wanna get some of Earl's turnings in the mix as well as calendar photos.
