I am setting up my dovetail jig. See my photo gallery for picture. I am happy with the cut but it is off about 1/8 of an inch from side to side. Help please. Lorraine

Would someone move the pic to the post.

We'll need more info that that.

What kind of jig?
Is your collet centered on the bit? (This usually doens't cause much of a problem)
You pieces square??
......
Give us more info. Don't use a jig unless you can you can have a half pin on both ends. Those fixed dovetail jigs are designed for fix drawer sizes in order to have a proper joint.

Thanks,

John

Looks like you were not up against the side stop all the way with one of your boards (the pin board). This may not be a big deal though, if your stock was ripped oversized. It looks like you're using a jig with uniform dovetail spacing, so plan your drawer size to coincide with the spacing of your jig, so you end up with a half-pin on each end... hope that makes sense.

To post a pic, all you have to do is copy and paste the UBB code that is listed below your pic.

It could be that, or it could be a lot of things. Dovetail jig setups are black and white. They have some grey. Lorraine, have you made joints with this jig before without this problem. Could be a jig setup issue too.

Lorraine,

With my jig (PC4212), you have to plan on drawer width's etc, to be in 1/4" increments in order to get a uniform 1/2 pin on each end. Also. When setting up your pin board, make sure that you accurately measure the half pin size on the template (I use a 6" rule calibrated to 1/64" increments.) at each end before you cut. Or, try it out on some scrap - same thickness and width. And, like Monty said, make sure that your boards are nice a tight and square to the side stop on the jig.

I find that with my PC4212, I have to make a couple of test cuts to get it right. It can be frustrating, I know!:BangHead:

Good Luck,

Wayne

Remember, you set your stops to accommodate the SIDE board. That's the one hanging down. Position the board so that the 'comb' exposes the same amount on each end. You want your bit to cut into the very end parts. Then snug up the LH stop and the end board (one laying down) should be aligned. Good luck,
Joe

I have used this jig before but today was a new set-up with a different router. I have it set up pretty good now. I think I just wasn't snug enough against the pin. I also seem to be struggling with the bit. Do bits get dull and have to be replaced very often? I seem to be burning the wood just a bit.
