There seems to be a common theme to teach new or non-woodworkers.
Here is one from Marc Spagnolo (The Wood Whisperer) where he takes a project that his wife Nichole wants and has her complete the project. (mentoring her the whole time)
A nice teaching method... but it really underlines why teaching in person works so well. (explanations are easily done remotely, but tool angle, "how do I do that again?" and the helping hand in assembly must be done in-person!)
