Which is more preferred for knife sharpening,interrupted surface or continuous surface diamond stone and which brand.TIA

DMT is by far the best.

Opinions are divided on solid vs. stippled. I like the solid metal. To me it seems to last longer, stay flatter and cut smoother. I can't prove it but i think metal particles get trapped in the plastic dots and scratch the surface of the blade.

I have a set of the dirt cheap plastic backed web pattern diamond plates. The only real issue I have noticed is that they are wearing out quickly. I don't see any evidence of a pattern or undue scratches. To get a really good edge, it does still need honing after the fine plate though.
