I picked up my brand new Delta DJ 20 8" jointer from WWS this morning. Man, is that mutha heavy! I do have a question from someone who knows absolutely nothing about shop wiring. The DJ 20 says it is a 120/240v machine. Does that mean it will work on both? The plug has two horizontal lugs and a ground, if that helps. I have one outlet powered for 110 and one for 220 that the plug will fit. Thanks for any help you can throw my way. An thanks again for all the advice :icon_thum .

It looks like you might have to get rid of that PM lathe to make room for it. I can store it in my shop for you :-D:-D

The jointer will run on either current level, you might have to adjust the wiring in it to run it on something different than it is already wired for. There should be pretty simple instructions on how to change the wiring included with it. My guess is that it is pre-wired for 240v, and that would be the best way to run it if you have the circuit available.

Yes!! it is wired for 240v right now. I have run this machine on both and it does run better on 240v, especially on start up.

Yep, sounds like it is wired for 220V with the two horizontal plugs. It is a simple change to put it on 110, but it likes its juice so put it on a circuit by itself on 110. If you can run it on 220, I would recommend it. I would not change mine back to 110. As Tom mentions, start up is much better at 220.

Looks like you have the same base as I do. It is very nice and one of my favorite mobile bases.

Congrats!

I may have missed something But this machine WILL NOT run on both 110 and 220 without changing the wiring at the motor.

You are correct, it will not run on both with out rewiring the motor. Just that it is capable of being wired to run 110 OR 220. From Delta it is wired to run on 220.

Awesome info guys! I will plug this puppy into the 220 socket. I may need another 220 run before this is all done. The PM lathe likes it's space  .

Jeff, good eye man! I didn't even realize I had captured a pen in progress. Any guesses as to type and species .

Thanks,
Bob

Nice machine!!!!

You need a spare cutter head though. You never know what may happen to the one it came with. By the way, I know someone getting rid of a spare.:lol::lol::lol:

Ya know if you aren't careful those boys are gonna start fighting!!!! That DJ-20 is one of those "flat-boarders" and I've heard they don't play well with "spinny" machines. Now- "Torn between two (three?) lovers"?
