Mark - Reread it. Thanks for the nudge. Do you have any idea how far back you have to go in time to find a model that uses the handle-mounted squeeze switch. Not saying I'd change anything, but conceptually, I like the idea of controlling the motor that way.

That lever is the detent release for tilting the motor. The detent slides into holes that are pre-set at certain angles, i.e. 45° & 90° Apparently the detent is seized in the handle so the lever doesn't move. Once you have that all apart and derusted or cleaned you will see how it works.
