I have recently received about 200 lb-ft of rough walnut from my in-laws farm. Some of the wood was stored for years in an old barn, and has powder-post and old-house borer beetle exit holes. I don't have any immediate plans for the wood, but obviously I want this dealt with properly before I store it myself.
The 2 main treatment methods I have read about are heat (kiln) and pesticide (boracare/timbor).
Does anyone have experience with the effectiveness of boracare?
Alternatively, does anyone know of a kiln in the Raleigh/Durham area that I could contract with?
Thanks for any advice.
