Our new Priest arrived last month from Michigan. Found out he's a woodworker, although without his shop while waiting for his house to sell and family to arrive. He told me that the only thing he needed in his temporary apartment was a mini-bench to put by his front door to put on and take off his shoes (I assume a habit from the Michigan winters that he was coming from - didn't want to explain to him that it was unnecessary in South Carolina). So over the past month I did this for him. Its cedar (from scrap) and poplar plywood. Full process is on my project web site. Had some problems with the cedar wanting to splinter and split, but I think I got everything controlled. Will deliver it later in the week.

Ken,
Great job! Nice contrast between the wood colors. That's a Deacon's bench any Priest should be proud of.....even in SC:lol: . Maybe he can use it to change from his dress shoes to the house slippers.
Keep up the great work,
Randy

Very nice. Eastern Red Cedar is difficult to work with but it makes the shop smell sooo good and you won't have to worry about moths for a while:lol:

Great lookin' bench, Ken. I had a look at your progress pics at your site, looking for your finish. Did I read, just a plain poly finish? :?: Looks great.

That cedar top looks fantastic with the poplar sides!

I am quite sure that it will be very much appreciated!
