After Phil's recent post showing his cyclone separator, I began looking into this item. I contacted Gary MacIntyre, the maker of this item, for more information and I'm very pleased with what I've learned. Phil has this unit and gives it a "10" on a scale of 1-10 for performance. I asked Gary if he would extend a deal to the members of this group and he has agreed to offer free shipping ($22 value) to this group if we pull together several orders. He will ship each unit to the address of your choosing. The units cost $169 each and is available in either 4" or 6" for the same price. This unit converts a standard DC into a true cyclone system and makes use of your existing blower. Below is a picture of the unit and you can also find more details at www.cycloneseparator.com. Let me know if you would be interested. If we have enough people, he may even discount the price of the unit. I'd like to set things up to order by 11/18/05.

That's a great deal thanks for swinging it. What is the benefit to that over a trashcan separator in a small hobby shop that would only run one machine at a time. I looked through his site but was unable to find what the overall height of the assembly would be when attached to a standard metal trash can. I don't have the best ceiling height in my shop. Dave:)

Dave, I don't think you will have a problem with ceiling height. I don't have the dimensions either but the description he gives of the free standing unit uses 6' threaded rod and that runs from the ground to the top of the unit mounted over a metal trash can.

The main advantages are improved airflow and better separation. I have the trash can lid version now and still get quite a bit of dust that passes through to the bag. Dust clogs the bag from the inside and restricts the system. The air turbulence inside the trash can also negatively affects performance. Maybe Phil will chime in here with his experience. He owns one and recommends it highly.

Cool, thanks for the info. that does make sense. I often forget to check my can soon enough and find myself filling my bag also. I may have to give that some serious thought, especially seeing as it shouldn't take up any more floor space than my set-up now. Dave:)

Ok, so far I have:

Me - in
Dparrot - in
Steve - maybe
Cathy - maybe
DaveO - maybe

He is set up with Paypal and does buy it now auctions on Ebay. We'll probably end up with individual purchases with a discount code to identify members of this group.

What would you like to know? I'm relying on the recommendation of one of the users here in the group that bought one a while back and endorses it very highly. If you have specific questions, I'll try and get them answered.
