craftsman's best kept secret - #24031.73335.23479

When I built my new shop and installed my new dust collection system, I thought I would never need a little gadget that I had used for quite a few years. My chop saw was connected to the dust collection system, but, because I only used it quickly to cut some small boards to length, I was not bothering to turn on the system. so, I got sawdust all over the floor.. Then I remembered the Craftsman Current Tap. #24031.73335.23479. This is a little square box that plugs into an outlet. your primary power tool plugs into the "power tool " outlet and the vacuum plugs into the "accessory " outlet. Whenever you start your saw or whatever you have plugged into the "power tool" outlet, whatever is plugged into the "accessory" outlet also starts. This little beauty ony costs about $15.00 (last time I bought one). So now I use a shop vac for the chop saw and I don't have to think when I run to the saw to make a 30 second cut.

It is a neat thingie. I have an old old old shop vac from a yard sale hooked up permanently to my CMS and use one of these. It has worked fine for the last three years.

Wow, that is a great idea, I too have the same problem with my mitersaw and sanding station. How long ago were they around 15 bucks, that's a decent price. Dave:)

I have one myself....think I paid around $20 for it. I noticed that the tap was shown in this month' issue of American Woodworker so Sears has probably sold a few more of these in the past week or two.

Yep thats it. I picked one up this weekend. Unless you have a knowledgeable woodworker helping you at sears they won't even know what you are talking about. They are over by the power tools and everything. I ended up having to bring the item number with me so that they could find it. They had 18 of them, but no one knew what they were.
