Contest Voting is Open

Voting/rating for the contest is now open:eusa_danc Please read this message and/or more posts in this for clarifications. The contest and rating systems in the PhotoPost software is very crude, so I had to make some hurried changes. It is still crude, but it is the best that I can do for this contest.

Remember this is both a woodworking AND a photography contest. A beautiful piece of work(s) should not be used if the picture itself is not of reasonable quality. This means that each submittal must have reasonable quality in the following areas:

• Focus:lol:
• Composition
• Lighting

So please view the photos in both sizes so you can get an idea of how they will look.

Voting for the cover and the individual pages will be done differently.

Cover

Simple, after viewing the choices, go back to the page that has the thumbnails and click on the vote link under the thumbnail. You only get one vote.

Indvidual pages

Here you are asked to simply:lol: go through all 60 something images and give each image a rating. You'll see the rating choices under each picture. Basically, you are rating each picture from 1 to 10. just ignore the words "poor" and "excellent". A 10 (excellent) is a picture you definitely want to see in the calendar and a 1 (poor) is a picture that you definetly don't want in the calendar. The numbers in between are just shadings between those two extremes.

Steve----------when I went to the contest gallery to view all the entries I was not seeing all the entries as I went through the 3 pages. Some of the entries were showing up on every page while others were not shown at all, so I backtracked, the same thing happened. I went back through the pages again--------then I did see the entries I did not see the first two times. The entries were never in the same order and it was still showing some of them on every page.

How are we to know what entries we have rated when some do not show up and others show up in multiples? The going back and forth to rate each entry rearranges the gallery it seems. Makes it confusing for me:BangHead:

Jerry, I was getting the same thing. I ended up going through the group twice to make sure that I had voted on all. We don't want any hanging chads or a re-count :lol: :lol:
I don't think that you can vote for the same pic twice, so just keep voting until you can't anymore and you will have got them all.

How about sorting by photo title?

To check progress I've been going to it and sorting it by rating. Kind of fun to watch what pics are where.

I think it would have been better for everyone to have folks only submit on photo per peice. There are 3 pics of the same peice for a lot of them.

That may have caused some pieces to be rejected on photo quality or the photo chosen may have not showed the piece in the best light. The random display though is a royal pain in the A$$.

Steve----Thanks for the explanation. I think if each entry is posted once and left in the same order it would be easier to rate. Fair? We have to look at all the entries to rate each one so the order in which they are posted should not have a bearing on the overall rating. It is a little hard to compare two entries when they are on different pages though. I am not computer savy enough to solve that.

Thanks for all you are doing:eusa_clap :eusa_clap ------the calendar is a great idea!!! I think it brings out the creativity in the members and gives those of us who are not savy with computers a challenge to learn more about computers. And----------its a fun thing to do.:icon_thum

I've been sorting them by rating as well. Refreshing every now and then, seeing how they change.

It should have been up to the submitter to figure out which picture is the best to put into the contest. I think it should be in the rules for next year. Just my opinion.

If you change the "View" to "group by member", you can avoid the random mixing and also ensure you see all the pics. Great job by all who contributed, and those who made this possible. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Two things. One the gallery is now default sorted ny title. Two the contest will end at 6 AM 11/21. That's two weeks of voting to allow for all all those members that only visit weekly.

This is the first contest like this that we have run and first attempt to use the rating and voting system of the PhotoPost software, which has a lot of problems with this type of thing.

I/we are learning from this first contest. Next year, we will incorporate what I have learned. That is if we do it again next year.:lol:

Things have shifted around a bit from time to time. I imagine things will move less as total vote count builds up.
