To Chris Mathes for winning the penmakers challenge on the IAP.:eusa_clap
I am hoping to see a better picture

From what I could see the symmetry and execution were excellent!
Way to go Chris!

If so you can mail my check any time):icon_thum

I don't look at the work of many others ,it is better that I come up with ideas than be influenced by others hard work.
That being said when I see a name of someone I know I always make it a point to look at their work.
There are a lot of talented people out there doing their own designs.
It is getting tougher to come up with something different.
Although the pen that Chris submitted looked like he could not make up his mind as to what he wanted to make the symmetry was beautiful and "worked"
I imagine there are some that would say that it was too busy, what I noted was the execution and the fact that both halved of the pen were mirror image.
To do that takes a great deal of attention to detail and accuracy.
Great job Chris.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. This really was a big honor for me and I can't stop smiling because of it :) The thing that made this most difficult for me was the fact that we only had 7 days from the time that we were given the 'rules' or guidelines to get from design to finish.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]My goal was to do something different, which, as Eagle stated, is hard to do. I hoped that the segments closest to the centerband were 'original', but (suprise suprise) I see that Eagle has done some variations of the same idea...probably 5 years ago..lol. Anyway, I was at least hoping it was something that has not been very common and I think I achieved that.

Eagle, you are right on with your comments on the design. My main idea was the part close to the centerband. The other segments were added to show off some additional segmentation styles/capabilities. I think that the woods compliment each other very nicely, but can understand comments on being busy, etc. All in all, with the time I had to complete this, I am very pleased....especially pleased that I tried something new (at least for me) and it actually turned out :)

DaveO...I know...I'm shocked too (yoyospin) and honored :)

Clay...yah, I was fortunate to win a contest last year, too, with this pen...It's been fun!!

OH....1 more thing...I got an even bigger compliment than winning the contest, when my wife told me that she would like to have the pen for herself. That was huge for me :eusa_danc:eusa_danc:eusa_danc

Great job Chris. :eusa_clap
I think half the fun was driving folks mad with the drivel some of us posted discussing what is & isn't segmentation.
I hope I can make time to play again this week.
Cheers,
Gary

I would hate to be an admin over there...or run a contest. Those guys are ABUSED by all of the 'semantic' sorting going on...haha

I'm not sure I'm going to have time for the next one. This one will show some real creativity, I bet!

Wasn't this one yours from this week? Very nice!

ED4copies is a very good friend of mine whom I have known over the phone for over two years.
In a round about way Woodguy 1975 introduced us but he doesn't know it.
Ed and I speak at least once a week and I also speak with his significant other Dawn otherwise know as the PR Princess. She has a great artistic mind and is also a great friend.
I hope to meet Dawn at the Chicago fountain pen show later this spring.

Chris,
That was mine; here's another view:
200819155826_GaryMGg_6.jpg

I saw slimline and started something that didn't fit the rules and set it off to the side; I then had one afternoon left to produce an entry.

Funny how much effort we all put into the "lowly slimline" ;-)

Cheers,
Gary
