Clocks can be as easy or as hard as you want to make em. If you go with a quarts type push in movement, it shouldn't be hard at all. Building a basic clock isn't very hard. You just need the right router bits. You'll need a method of removing the back to get to the clock to change the battery or adjust the dials. Check out your local clock store for ideas. The clock store in Cary Town center has loads of good examples, and the guy that runs the place (John I think is his name) is more than happy to talk to you about making a clock. He loves to see people making their own. He says it's a dying art.
