I currently have a 7 1/4 Skil saw I have had since the early 1980's that still runs strong but it weighs a ton and not really considered a "light duty" trim saw!

I have been looking around for a decent 5 1/2 - 6" trim saw. (I have a 14.4 V Dewalt that came as part of a combo, but it ain't worth a flip, power wise with that wee battery pack.) So.....I decided the corded would be a better option. The PC Saw Boss (6 inch) sounds like a pretty decent saw, but is it really much lighter than the original Skil saw? I looked at the Craftsman 5 1/2". Weight wise, I think that it would be just about right and has the blade on the left that I also was looking for. But, the base plate looks pretty flimsy.

Any other saw out there (at a reasonable price) that you think is worth having a look at?

Thanks in advance, (Fathers Day is coming and got to get my wish list together! )

One thing to think about is bevel cutting. I am not sure if the 5 1/2 will 45 degree 2x material. I like the PC Saw Boss.It will do the 2x at 45 degees. I think it is a good little saw. It weighs 9 lbs, so not much weigh savings. If you want a solid little saw and don't need the depth. The PC 314 is solid. It weighs 7 pounds and is a worm drive.
anyway my .02 cents worth.
