Thanks for your warm welcome to NC Woodworkers Network. Much appreciated.

On to wood biz - Was wondering if there is someone on the site who has, or knows a WW, with experience building cigar boxes w/humidor.

I’ve been asked to build such a cigar box for a raffle to raise $$$ for my high school reunion in September. Haven’t committed to do it yet, but would like to help if I can.

Have read a good article about this in Fine Woodworking but before I start, I’d like an experienced knowledgeable source I might tap into.

Please let me know if you can help me, or help me find, find someone who can advise how to maneuver the tricky issues involved in building it.

Thanks,

Woodstock

I've built a few. I've found the one's people like the best are the Wine Coolers that provide an air-tight enclosure and then I build spanish-cedar drawers and have room for humidification below the bottom drawer. If you do go this route, ensure you get a wine cooler that does not use a compressor but instead uses thermoelectric cooling (the compressor will suck the humidity out of the humidor).

This is a basic one I did. The humidity pack goes in the top grid. Sadly it went to a good friend who prefers to use Tupperware and so he puts his pipe tobacco in this.

Beautiful. Wood and the finish really pop! Thanks Westpacx3. More like what I am looking for. I have some of that patterned wood (exterior image) in my shop just waiting for a project like this. Is there a plan, measurements, etc. for this or did you build it from scratch?

Built from scratch but I can measure it out later after work and send some details. Really is a box in a box as somebody else stated. Im not super skilled and pulled this off a a few years ago. The hardest thing for me was deciding to waist wood and use the better artistic area of a long board verses just laying it out from left to right. I believe I ended up with a 3 corner and not a 4 corner match. Also I used mid grade hinges that cost about 22.00 verses 40 to 80 dollar hinges. They were not machined very well but if I had know what to look for I could have picked a better pair. I think these were the end cut of a long run.

Don't go out of your way to document but a few key measurements that you see as important would help. I really appreciate you helping me with this project. As a woodworker you know that it can be somewhat intimidating when you know 100+ people will be inspecting your work!!! :)

True enough.

I sent you PM with the details this morning.

If he sent via PM/DM, look at the envelope icon on the top row, next to your name.
