Cherry Squared!

Here is one of the latest square edged bowls I finished up. It is around 6" square finished with lacquer. I find trying something different like the square edged bowls keeps my turning fresh and motivated. The last picture is of an 8" silver maple vase I finished last week as well.

These are really nice, Jack. I especially like the square edge bowl - did you stain or paint the rim of the bowl or is that a contrasting piece of wood?

Looking at yours inspired me to try and make one but the red oak that I used chipped out really badly and pretty much destroyed the piece... looks like I need to find a different kind of wood. :rolf:

Thanks everyone. Chris I burned the rim by holding a piece of 0000 steel wool against it until it burned the rim.

I love both forms. Is the vase hollowed out? If so, how thick are the walls?

Thanks again, Ed the vase is hollowed out with a wall thickness of 1/8" +/- a 1/16". I hollowed it with a John Jordan #1 swan neck tool and home made straight boring bar that is a copy of John's straight bar.
