Cherry and Walnut Large Bowl

This week's use of scrap wood is a 14.5 inch bowl. Portions are segmented but the bottom layer is not as I was trying to explore a design. Finish is Odie's oil primarily because I had some and it is easy to use. While my lathe can handle a larger diameter, my Cole jaws cannot. I'm not sure we have a table that could handle a larger piece either. IMG_4105.jpgIMG_4106.jpgIMG_4107.jpgIMG_4108.jpgIMG_4109.jpgIMG_4110.jpg

Dang, that’s really nice. It would make a nice collection plate. Take it to church and pass it around…see what it comes back with.🤣
It does kind of look like that doesn't it. That was not the plan, but who knows maybe the kids will leave donations in it when they visit the house!

Is the center detail a carving?
No. It is a detail achieved by using a texturing tool which is basically a rotating gear pressed into the wood at different angles. Mine is a Sorby texturing tool, but there are several out there and many home shop made ones as well.
