Cheap 4'x6' 1/2" plywood for sale

Builder's Discount Center has their 4x6" sheets of hardwood plywood on sale again, $11. Several locations. Cheaper than mdf/osb if you need something simple

This price equates to $14.65 for a 4' x 8' sheet of 1/2"
Not bad at all!
But closest one is 132 miles from Lenoir! Sheesh!

To be clear: this is not Baltic birch. It is also not marine grade or any grade I would use in a critical structure. No representation by me that this is anything but inexpensive sheet goods

I purchased a few sheet a couple months ago: one oak, two maple. The veneer on both faces of all sheets was very good, surprisingly good. I used it, stacked, as a work table top, but it was high enough quality for a cabinet side panel. My sheets have been void free. But remember, I bought this because it was plywood, not hardwood veneer plywood and I have lots of random uses for 1/2" sheet goods, including template making. It's about the same price as 1/8" Masonite and easier for me to handle. YMMV

Even though 4x6 is obviously less stock than a 4x8 (duh), I never thought i'd see even passable sheet stock for such a price nowadays. I have some shop cabinets planned for the near future, might be good for it.

I picked up a sheet with maple veneer. Veneer is rotary cut but was in good shape until I marked it with my bed liner. The perimeter had one small void which I felt was encouraging. If I knew that I was building my kitchen cabinets out of 1/2” sides I would think about stocking up.

Normal price is $3 more, so ….

I may head out to Graham for a few sheets. Need to make some boxes over the next few months.

I will add that the folks there helped me sort through a couple sheets before I chose mine - some had some light edge banding or strap face damage. Glad to hear that some here also had a positive, or semi positive experience. I've cut some of this into strips and small pieces and, so far, no voids. YMMV

I would treat this as light structural/not decorative - and manage expectations accordingly. Unlike the home centers, it is not a stocked item so definitely call before making the journey. As I noted earlier, I found their internal electronic stock checker to be surprisingly accurate.

Reminder, they have no ability to cut stock to fit your vehicle and no outlets for corded tools
