Yes, I am changing things. If you can't find something, it is probably in the "Site Navigation" menu on the left. I am still in progress, but won't change anything more tonight, unless it is very late.

If you have problems, are just hate something, please post in the problems forums.

Sorry and Thanks

I can fully understand trying to make the site experience the best possible. I might also toss up for your consideration that stability can be good as well. If the site changes, especially the navigation, frequently, people will find it too challenging to try and figure out. There is so much good stuff here, it takes a while to start going through it. Imagine what it must be like for a newbie to try and catch up, and then have difficulty finding the navigation buttons from session to session! Just my .02 worth!

I like the navigation panel on the left---now you can find what you want on any screen:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Steve, let me start out by saying that I think you do an amazing job with this site. I really appreciate all the work you put into it. I'm not sure why you are putting the panel on the left. Are you planning to get rid of both the top and bottom ones? The print is a little small for my feeble eyes. IIRC you added the bottom menu so we could navigate more easily if at the end of reading all the posts in a thread. With the menu on the left we still have to scroll back up the screen to select those choices, even more so now that the first screen shows more posts (which I also like). I realizes that not wanting to do this is purely lazy on my part, but that's not new info to anyone  . My .02 worth.

Today, I have to, hopefully, finish and debug the changes. Then I'll write a post explaining why I decided to make some of these changes..

The type on the left is much easier to read. Did you fix it or did I remember to put my glasses on?

First, let me apologize for all the changes and most of all ,,the ones that were only partially put in on Friday. I thought the menu/navigation changes would take about 8 hrs, but it ended being quite a bit more. So it ended with something only partially implemented and not really debugged.

I think the worst is over:eusa_liar I realize that changes can be disconcerting for the users, especially when live they have been, but I'm trying to keep the site up.

These weren't done on a whim and I'm not quite finished. I am addressing 3 basic issues.

1 From the beginning, one of the biggest problems that I get the most PM, emails, etc. is site navigation. "Where is, how do I" .you see a lot of these in the forums, But I get more directly. And frankly the "Other Links" idea sucked.

2 Right now there are a lot of issues that only I can deal with. But we have 10 or 11 people who want to help. Some of the changes or so that the Admins and Mods can take some of that workload, if they want.

3 SEO Search Engine Optimization. What you say?:eusa_doh:
Right now over 80% of our new members get here through web searches. But they aren't getting here, becuase of normal links but becuase I am paying for them. I stop the campagain and new members dropped to almost to zero:-( So I restarted it. The only way out of this delima is to have many more of our pages in the search indexes. After 9 months of operations, we really only have a few and all with very low weight.

The only way to make this happen is a process called SEO. I have started that process. Some of you may have noticed that thread and post pages seem to have new links. The new ones are more search engine "freindly" That is only one part of the process. Just creating the Site Navigation menu will help.

So no I wasn't changing for the sake of change, not really adding new features. To be honest, almost all of the changes are for my benefit, not yours.

Acknowledging my skill level in making changes ( :embaresse ), I'll be glad to help any way I can. Just let me know how, what.... Would you allow us to help with your cost for the search engines?

How about now
The bigger you make that font in that column, the less room you have for reading posts in this middle column. Not a big deal for text, but if someone posts a picture that's wider than this column the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the screen will raise its ugly head. :-? That will push the right column off the screen.

Let's see....
