Robert,

Really like your walking sticks and canes. I see you have several more in progress in the back. Do you have any standard length you make them?

Thanks Rick. As far as the lenth I try to leave them long enough to cut to fit the buyer. That is if anyone buy's one:dontknow:.As far as the price they very due to the wood type and amount of work.Like the holly that is the only one I've ever found. Almost forgot I've got over 100 sticks at different stages of prep.

I was wondering if you were still playing with the sticks since you found out about turning!

They look great!

I was fortunately enough to meet Mr. Arrowood in person earlier this and he took pity on my an my recently sliced up knee to give me on of his walking sticks. I can tell all from personal experience that these sticks are really nice to have and the workmanship is beautiful. I used his walking stick during my rehabilitation and now I take it with me to the mountains whenever I go hiking.
He is one our true country gentlemen.

Nice work Robert. I've done a lot of canes and staffs over the last few years and I know the amount of work that goes into one. Used to have access to a great span of over 65 acres to trudge around in looking for nature-spiraled trees but since moving up here, I haven't run across much. Nice spanse of woods behind my house but not much to offer up in the way of vine work that I've found yet. I keep looking though.

There's a guy who spends time in the woods. When I need a cane you gave me a great idea - nice sticks and canes :thumbs_up

I've walked every foot of my 60 acres and rarely find anything like that and usually when I do they are bent too much or too thick for a cane.

I like the way you carve away the low part and leave the raised bark.

My son has been making another cane, I didn't see it until it was almost finished. I hope he will post some pictures, I think it looks very good and totally unique. He has already passed me by, and he's not even warmed up yet. :notworthy:

Very nice looking walking sticks. As Phillip said, the dogwood is especially nice.

Really good lookking sticks.

I have been reading a book on this.

I know that now is the best time of year to get your sticks.
What do you think are the best areas to look for them?
Creeks? General woods?

When I look for the sticks I'm all over.Around the creek beds is a good place. But you got to look for anywhere you see vines.Up and down railroad beds is a good place too. Most of the time where there is one there is more.Don't just look at the trunk I've found some with no twist around the trunk but on up the tree. I have gotten as many as 3 sticks out of 1 tree. When I cut them I cut them long. That way if they split HOPFULLY it don't ruin the whole stick. Also if you cut a maple you will need to strap it down I use 2x4s and electrical conduit clamps. The "U" clamps with tabs on both sides. If you don't they will bow.Good luck hunting.O ya make sure you wear "BLAZE ORANGE" it's hunting season.
